What’s the matter with Kansas?

Posted by disappointmentzone on 6 September 2007

Each week the AP releases a list of the top 25 college football teams in the country as decided upon by a corp of 65 media members. Each week the AP also releases the ballots of the individual voters. As time permits the Disappointment Zone is going to highlight the best and worst voters each week in a feature that doesn’t yet have an official name, but that could all change depending on Mr. Tom Keegan of Lawrence, Kansas.

Tom Keegen writes for the Lawrence Journal and has a vote in the AP Top 25. This week he gets the honor of voting Ohio State higher than anyone else in the country. How high did he vote the Buckeyes?

#3.

I, too, am a little dumbfounded here.

But never mind the twisted calculus that determined OSU’s place on his ballot (is this guy an alumnus?). All that matters is that thanks to Mr. Keegen Ohio State is ranked higher in the polls than they would be otherwise. We are grateful, Mr. Keegen.

Other media members who deserve shout outs are:

* Doug Doughty of the Roanoke Times, who ranked OSU #5.

* Ray Rotto of the San Francisco Chronicle, who ranked OSU #6.

Keep trying guys. You’re almost there.

———————————

Despite the best efforts of the men listed above Ohio State fell in the rankings this week. So along with a list of the best AP voters in the country we also have a special award for the worst.

The inaugural Douche of the Week award goes to:

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury. He ranks OSU #24.

Jerk.

———————————-

Finally, Michigan lost Appalachian State this past week in a game many are calling the biggest upset of all time. Michigan fell out of the Top 25 — as they should have — but some lesser douches did their best to keep Michigan ranked. We want to recognize them, too.

The inaugural Lesser Douches of the Week awards go to:

Wayne Phillips of the Greenville Sun, who ranked Michigan #16.

Parrish Alford of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, who ranked Michigan #20.

Jay Tate of the Montgomery Advertis, who ranked Michigan #22.

David Jones of Florida Today, who ranked Michigan #25.

Molly Yanity of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, who ranked Michigan #25.

Idiots.

One night when its real foggy out they might come for you ;)

  2. […] Last week Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News earned Douche of the Week honors after ranking OSU #24. Apparently Mr. Wilner has no interest in bequeathing his title because this week he cemented his Douche status by dropping OSU off his ballot. […]
