Peter King: Browns least powerful team
Posted by disappointmentzone on 16 July 2007
In his MMQB Peter King offers his first power rankings of the season and the Browns occupy the last spot on the list, #32.
32. Cleveland: The Browns are beginning to draft their way out of the abyss. But it’s a pretty deep abyss.
Although my heart cries out in disagreement, I’m not sure of any other team I’d place below the Browns. Let’s take a quick gander at the teams that finished around the cellar last season. Incredibly, King has the Detroit Lions at #13, which seems awfully high for such a terrible team. Martz is good, but he’s not that good, right? Oakland should improve now that they have an actual quarterback, but it’s hard to see Russell doing a whole bunch with that offensive line and no Randy Moss. Tampa Bay’s hopes rest of Jeff Garcia. That’s certainly a red flag. Washington is more powerful than the Browns. Not sure Minnesota is more powerful than the Browns, but Peterson should make more of an immediate impact than any of the guys the Browns drafted/signed this off season. I like the Browns’ longterm prospects over Peterson, but in the short term Thomas is looking like a holdout and there is no chance Quinn will win the starting job at the start of the season, even if he is signed and in camp on time.
