Cavs are second most powerful team in universe

In this week’s SI.com NBA power rankings Marty Burns has the Spurs #1 and the Cavs #2, up from #7 last week. Pay no attention to the fact that the Spurs and Cavs played each other and that the Cavs won — on the road, no less. Losing the the Bobcats, a team that fell from #17 to #23 despite beating the #2 team, is more damaging to the Cavs than beating the best team is rewarding, apparently.
Tonight the team plays the mighty Hawks of Atlanta, who come to town sporting a 2-1 record, just like our Cavs. Marty Burns isn’t too high on the Hawks, however: they are ranked a pathetic #25. With two days’ rest and home court advantage the Cavs shouldn’t have much problem dismantling the Hawks, although last season the team did have trouble getting up for games in which they were huge favorites, including games against the Hawks. So after tonight the Cavs should be 3-1. And then things get easier. Three of the following four teams the Cavs play are ranked in the bottom five of the power rankings: POR (26), NY (29), BOS (30). The lone decent team in the next five games is Chicago. That should be a great game (Thursday night, TNT).
