Lerner to buy EPL team?

Posted by disappointmentzone on 24 July 2006

The Associated Press is reporting that Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner might purchase English soccer team Aston Villa. Lerner would be the second NFL owner to buy a professional soccer team in England in the last two years. Bucs owner Malcolm Glazer bought a stake in the New York Yankees of Great Britian, otherwise known as Manchester United, which wasn’t received well by Man U fans. Let’s hope Lerner isn’t met with the same sort of backlash.

For those unfamiliar with the English Premier League, the league in which Aston Villa is playing, well, get hip. EPL soccer is great. And now you have a legitimate reason to follow one of the teams. Of course, Aston Villa hasn’t had much success recently. So if you don’t want to support them that’s fine. But all the cool kids are jumping on the EPL bandwagon, including Bill Simmons!
