The Disappointment Zone

Musings from a Cleveland sports fan

Jurevicius returns

Posted by disappointmentzone on 13 July 2006

In this week’s Sports Illustrated there is a nice article on newly-acquired Browns wide reciever Joe Jurevicius, signed this past March after one season in Seattle during which he caught 10 touchdown passes and have five catches for 93 yards in the Super Bowl. Jurevicius is a local kid–he grew up in Cleveland and went to high school at Lake Catholic High–and the article, by Richard Hoffer, plays up the importance of the Browns as an institution to those living in NE Ohio and how the Browns have always played a significant role in Jurevicius’s life. The article focuses on how the past informs the present and how to understand Jurevicius one needs to look both at his history as a football player/fan and the unfortunate circumstances the led to his son’s death.
