If we learned anything from yesterday’s loss to the Chargers it’s that Phil Dawson still has a functional right leg. Not that this was ever in doubt, of course. Just last week I watched him pace the sidelines, and earlier in the year I even saw him jog across the field. Prior to Sunday I was fairly certain Dawson’s legs were working. I mean, I wouldn’t have bet my right leg that his right leg was fully functional, but still. Unassuming confirmations of things you know to be true can occasionally be nice.
What else did we learn? Not much…Well, yeah. There was that one thing: the lesson the Browns did give on How Not To Score Touchdowns.
When was the last time a field goal kicker made six field goals, none of which was longer than 42 yards, two of which were no longer than 30 yards, and three of which were between 35-37 yards? Is there a forcefield in San Diego on the Chargers’ 18 yard line? Pretty incredible.
Charlie Frye returned to form after committing only one turnover in each of the last two game: two turnovers! It had been three weeks since Frye had last lost a fumble, so I guess he was due. And Charlie Frye knows interceptions much in the same way that Bo Jackson knew baseball. There was never a doubt in my mind that Frye would be tossing an INT against the Chargers.
